To be honest, the lack of Ben’s POV just made him come across as the kind of guy who already knows what he wants. I wish we get to hear from Ben’s POV to actually see whether he is as open-minded and if he would try to do “liberal” things with Kate. Mind you, the book is written from Kate’s point of view, except for the epilogue. While listening to the book, I feel that Kate was being open-minded and genuinely try to understand where Ben came from and what his point of views are. One point that is mentioned by many of those who dislike the book was how they felt that Kate changed for Ben while Ben stay the same. Meet You in the Middle has more romance than politics in it

We get to know both of them as they get to know each other. I feel the story actually focused more on them as individuals and what made them a liberal and a conservative. Personally, I really enjoyed the banters and the story on how they become friends and eventually more. Their first meeting didn’t go very smoothly and what follow is a rollercoaster of a journey for the two. The story follows the journey of Kate, who is a liberal Senate staffer and Ben, the gatekeeper for a powerful conservative senators.

I should probably note that I’m not American so when it comes to the political discussion, I would admit that I don’t think I can comment on it. Imagine my surprise when I went on to Goodreads and saw the backlash and bad reviews on the book. I found the book while browsing Amazon and downloaded the audiobook right away. Political romance is one of the many genres I enjoyed so when I read the synopsis of Meet You in the Middle, it was an instant tbr for me.
